Rugby alumni of Illinois State University have a special event to look forward to this summer. The 2026 Alumni Reunion promises to be a memorable occasion to reconnect, celebrate, and support the future of ISU Rugby. After a few years of gathering at the Marriott, this year’s reunion will take place at the lively DESTIHL Brewery and Beer Hall in Normal, offering a fresh and exciting setting for old friends and teammates to come together.

What to Expect at the 2026 Reunion

The reunion planning committee has arranged a full weekend of activities designed to bring alumni back into the fold and celebrate the spirit of ISU Rugby. The main event will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at DESTIHL Brewery, but the festivities begin earlier in the week:

  • Thursday, August 27: Kickoff events to welcome returning alumni.

  • Friday: Golf outing followed by a casual pub gathering.

  • Saturday: Rugby matches and rugby kickball games during the day, leading up to the banquet at DESTIHL Brewery in the evening.

The brewery offers a private space with ample seating, a stage, and podium for speeches and presentations. Transportation between the reunion hotel (Marriott) and DESTIHL is being arranged to ensure everyone can enjoy the events without hassle.

More detailed information about the schedule, ticket registration, and hotel accommodations will be shared in early spring. Alumni are encouraged to mark their calendars and prepare for a weekend full of camaraderie and celebration.

Updates from ISU Rugby Teams

The ISU Rugby program continues to grow and evolve, thanks in part to the support from past alumni reunions. Here’s a snapshot of where the teams stand as they prepare for the upcoming spring season:

Women’s Team

The women’s rugby team has faced challenges over the past few years. After a suspension that was initially expected to last two years, the full reinstatement with Illinois State University has been delayed. The suspension now looks likely to extend until fall 2027, despite the team meeting all requirements and maintaining active participation. This extended pause has been difficult, but the women’s team remains committed to returning stronger and more united.

Men’s Team

The men’s team experienced a rebuilding year in fall 2025. After losing a strong senior class, the team returned with a younger roster eager to prove themselves. With 37 players, they faced tough competition but showed significant improvement. New leaders stepped up, and the team laid a solid foundation for future success. The hard work and dedication during this challenging season set the stage for a promising spring.

How Alumni Can Get Involved

The reunion is more than just a social event. It’s an opportunity for alumni to give back and help shape the future of ISU Rugby. Here are some ways alumni can contribute:

  • Attend the reunion to reconnect with teammates and support the program.

  • Volunteer to help organize events or assist during the reunion weekend.

  • Donate to support training, equipment, and recruitment efforts.

  • Share your story to inspire current players and strengthen the alumni network.

Your involvement makes a difference. The success of the teams depends on the support and engagement of alumni who understand the value of rugby in building character, teamwork, and lifelong friendships.

Looking Ahead

The 2026 reunion is shaping up to be a highlight of the year for ISU Rugby alumni. It offers a chance to celebrate past achievements, support current players, and help build a stronger future for the program. Whether you played on the men’s or women’s team, or simply want to reconnect with old friends, this event is for you.

Keep an eye out for the upcoming newsletter with full details on registration and the weekend schedule. Don’t miss the chance to be part of this special gathering at DESTIHL Brewery.

Save the date: Saturday, August 29, 2026. We look forward to seeing you there and continuing the legacy of ISU Rugby together.
